History

Nate was born on May 24, 2003 to embryologist Felix Adams and gynecologist Holly Adams in the small town of Peachburg, New Jersey, USA. He used to have a normal childhood despite having to endure the protest of his 'father'’s work and that Felix is actually his uncle since Nate's biological father was the emryologist's unborn twin. This was until the murder of Hans’ wife Autumn and their unborn second son on August 13, 2009. Hans was still at military at the time, so Felix decides to create the clone of the murdered fetus and have it incubate in a tube but was discovered by Nate and his best friend Sigmund (who were seven at the time). Nate and Sigmund were told by the former’s dad that not only that the purpose of the clones is to give them a chance its original didn’t achieve, but they must promise to keep the cloning a secret from Hans. The boys were basically taught this philosophy because Nate’s father has a feeling that his best friend will go on a murderous rampage if he finds out the truth. After the cloned baby, Carl, was born, Nate and Sigmund (who was Hans’ firstborn son) kept Felix’s promise.

After his uncle quits his job, he became the new principal of Sunshine Elementary School. By coincidence, Nate happened to be going to this very school once summer ends. During their school days, Nate and Sigmund try to befriend the aloof Dahlia Evans, who was actually Nate’s adopted cousin since Holly’s younger brother Fritz took Dahlia in as his own after his patient (who is Dahlia’s widowed mother) committed suicide by leaping off of a waterside cliff. Unfortunately, due to her experiencing her mother’s bouts of mental illness and witnessing her suicide, Dahlia rebukes their every attempt. But Nate never gives up and eventually gets her to warm up to him and Sigmund by making her feel like family when they’re with her.  Along the way, they befriended three classmates their age; the outgoing Jocelyne Beaumont, the tomboyish Haruki Kurosawa, and the effeminate Dieter Hahn.

But their happy school life has finally come crashing down on Wednesday March 31, 2010. Hans has somehow found out the truth about Carl and went berserk, going after Felix and killing anybody in his wake. As soon as Hans entered Sunshine Elementary School, he started killing everybody in sight. Nate, Sigmund, and Dahlia ended up splitting up from their friends in the midst of panic and chaos before hiding under a slain teacher’s desk. Once the cost is clear, they sneak to find Felix only to find his beheaded corpse with Hans standing there holding the man’s head like a trophy. Nate and his friends were about to be killed by the mad man but fortunately Carl’s stuffed Robotimal Lionel Lion (who rushed out of the Adams family house after seeing the news about the massacre while Nate's mom Holly was babysitting Carl) came to the rescue and bought the three kids time to escape. Once they escaped the school, they find to their joy that Jocelyne, Haruki, and Dieter are still alive. After a short but well-needed embrace between the six friends, Nate attends the mass funeral  with them alongside Holly, Fritz, and the other fourteen survivors and were given a four day weekend to take a breather from that event now known as Sunshine High School Massacre.

Four days later, Nate and Dahlia woke up to find themselves in a very unfamiliar place alongside Carl and the fourteen survivors with Sigmund, Holly, and Fritz nowhere in sight. The survivors soon learn that they’re in Sunshine Elementary School’s underground nuclear shelter, mainly because Peachburg was struck with a nuclear bomb combined with a bio-weapon that turned nearly all of its inhabitants into nasty, mentally unstable, zombie-like freaks and was now enclosed in a dome by the US government to avoid causing panic within America. Lionel, now the vice principal of the renamed Felix Adams Memorial Elementary School, assures them that they’ll still have contact with their beloved family members (as he actually got them out of Peachburg) and now they’ll participate in his weekly game “Survival Saturdays” which he promises will get them practiced for going out the underground shelter and escape Peachburg once they mature to adulthood. Despite undergoing a painful gene manipulation experiment as a major requirement to participate, Nate thinks that the “Survival Saturdays” will be legit. Sadly, his expectations were defied after the first Survival Saturday game left thirteen survivors dead excluding him, Dahlia, and Balthazar Ward. While waiting for the thirteen survivors to be cloned, Nate and Dahlia were consoled by Balthazar, who tells them to never forget the deaths of the survivors but keep their heads high.


While examining the autopsies of the survivors in the morgue, he stumbled across the dead body of Felix, his head and deceased newborn twin on a bed. Mortified by this sight, he turned around to see Lionel and Doctor Frog standing behind him. The dolls explain to the horrified child that they are planning to put Felix's head in a jar and plug it to a machine so Felix can continue his work as a principal and recently an AI. As for the twin, they were going to clone it so 'it' can have a chance of living. Initally uncertain about cloning the baby twin since said baby twin was his biological father, Nate decides to give it a chance. Meeting the cloned baby, Nate names the twin "Eben", who was then put into Carl's crib to be playmates with baby Carl.


During the six years of the survivors’ confinement within the underground shelter, Nate’s upbeat optimism and sincere kindness gain the ten survivors’ trust, causing them to be friends with him.

Abilities

Since he has the Deer Animal Mark, he can activate his lion genes whenever he needs it.

Trivia 

    -          His meals of the day are American.

    -          He is one of the very few survivors of Sunshine Elementary School Massacre to survive every Survival Saturdays.

    -          Nate is in a relationship with Jocelyne. Quite birds of a feather since they’re sociable and kind. They just got into a relationship after Nate’s 13^th birthday party, several days prior the story kicking off.

    -          His nickname “Nate” is a pun for natural. It’s supposed to mean that he was one of the few to not be cloned. Adams is a reference to one of the first and original human beings believed to be created by the God in the bible myth.

    -          Deer symbolize love, grace, humility, benevolence, and swiftness. Fits well with Nate.

    -          Nate recieved his pet realistic robotic owl named Sonar at the age of nine as a Christmas gift from Mr. Sheep.

    -          I watched a play through of Yo-Kai Watch (english version) yesterday (up to part nine), and I found out that the protagonist of Yo-Kai Watch is also named Nate Adams. I don't know what else to say other than it is a mere coincidence.

    -         As for his uncle Felix, his decapitated head was put into a jar and had his brain plugged to a machine, transforming into an AI who communicates with his son and students as a giant holographic head. Lionel believes that Felix should still watch over the students even after death. Felix was proud that Nate was becoming more loving and compassionate but was at the same time disturbed that his son became a bit more stoic in horrific situations.

    -         When I said 'Straight Asexual', I meant that he lacks a sex drive. Asexuality is not the same as celibacy, which is the willful decision to not act on sexual feelings. Asexuals, while not physically sexual-type folks, are none the less quite capable of loving, affectionate, romantic ties to others. Common misconceptions are that such people have suffered sexual abuse, are emotionally frigid, are closet homosexuals, masturbate ten times a day, are too ugly to get in a sexual relationship or are impotent. That is SO NOT TRUE. Spread the word, everybody! Spread the word! I would aslo like to point out that while Nate is naive and just turned thirteen, asexuality is NOT a phase; it's sexual orientation. GEEZ!

    -          He throws his shield like a frisbee in battle.

    -          Despite the fact Felix was his uncle and that Eben was his father, Nate still calls Felix 'dad', mainly because the deceased ex-embryologist was still a dad to him regardless.

    -          I decided to change Nate's story and family history a bit because I'm afraid that he's just too bland. Besides, there are a few real-life cases where the supposed mother/father failed their maternity/paternity tests because their unborn twins are the true mother/father.

    -          UPDATE: I decided to change Nate's AM from a Lion to a Deer because not only is he swift and skinny, but also rather innocent and benevolent.
